What is the difference between sinking and sourcing in PLC?

The control of the direct current flow in a load is defined by the terms Sinking and Sourcing. A grounded connection to the load is provided by a sinking digital I/O, whereas a source digital I/O provides a voltage source. A ground, a load, and a voltage source are needed for the circuit to work.
